The most general use of the Energy Jet system is “make up air”. Industrial manufacturers, processing plants, and all areas that require exhaust, also have a need for fresh replacement air. State and Federal laws enforce codes that insure a healthy environment for plant employees. Buildings with manufacturing, dust collection and welding stations typically have exhaust and/or ventilation systems. However, these areas typically do not have proper make up air systems.
All of us are familiar with a typical case where a building is exhausting air, but they do not have make up air. These buildings generally have open overhead doors and windows, ensuring that doors don’t get drawn in. However, this method only works on mild days. Cold temperatures force workers to close doors and windows. This may help keep them warm, but it creates a negative pressure.
When a building is under negative pressure, at least three major undesirable effects take place:
1) The exhaust system cannot remove the proper volumes.
2) The heating load is increased. (Due to infiltration; see below)
3) Contaminated products of combustion are back-drafted down heating exhaust stacks.
Trying to exhaust air from a building under a negative is like trying to inhale air from a bottle. Contaminated air cannot be exhausted when fans are working against increased static pressures due to this negative. Energy Jet will create a slight positive pressure within a building. This will aid the exhaust system in its attempt to remove contaminants.
Infiltration describes the air that naturally enters a building through cracks in walls in doors. When a building is under a negative, outside air is forced in through cracks in doors. These cold drafts are uncomfortable for employees, and cause the heating system to work twice as long as it was designed to.
Another potential problem of a Heating system’s products of combustion are back-drafted into a building, harmful CO levels are presented. Energy Jet eliminates back-drafting of heating systems.
The Energy Jet brings in fresh air and distributes it evenly at ceiling level. Instead of cold air rushing in at floor level, the Energy Jet mixes with the wasted stratified heat, where personnel cannot feel the draft. With a fired make up air system, heating cost skyrocket. However, in most cases with Energy Jet, energy costs do not increase. In fact, it is likely that your customer will realize a decrease in fuel bills.
Energy Jet decreases a buildings heat loss. First, by eliminating the air that comes in through cracks in walls and open doors. Second, by decreasing the ceiling temperature, less heat is lost through the roof. Instead of having 85-105F temperatures at the ceiling you now have equal temperatures throughout the entire building.
